Q: How does a drum motor work?

A: The electric drum is a single-component conveyor drive device. The input power line passes through the hollow shaft and is connected to the motor stator. The electric drum is mechanically connected in series with the gear reducer and is filled with oil.

Q: How to change oil in unit handling drum motors?

A: 1. Confirmation of the need for oil change
First, it is recommended to check the oil level: Carefully follow the safety procedures, rotate the drum motor until the oil drain holes are at the 4 and 10 o'clock positions, and then remove the lower oil plug. In addition to simply looking at the oil hole, it is also useful to use a clean wooden stick as an oil dipstick. The oil level should be approximately at the bottom of the lower oil hole when it is completely full. The same procedure can be applied to take out an oil sample and check its condition.

2. Actual oil change steps
In the first step, rotate the electric drum until the oil drain holes are at the 6 and 12 o'clock positions. Then, remove both oil plugs, place a bucket under the lower oil plug, and tilt the other end if necessary to drain and vent the electric drum. Before refilling the oil, wipe off any oil sludge and residue on the lower oil plug magnet, wrap the threads with Teflon tape and replace the oil plug. Next, use an oil pump or a funnel and a measuring bucket to pour the required amount of oil into the upper hole. Finally, repeat the above steps to wipe off any sludge and residue from the oil plug magnet, wrap the threads with Teflon tape and replace the oil plug.
